The security personnel, led by their respective commanders, were drawn from the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana National Fire Service, and the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

The march, which lasted about three hours, began from the Tamale Jubilee Park around 6:15 a.m. and ended at the Tamale Stadium after the troops had marched through Lamashegu, Aboabo, Hospital Road, Sakasaka, Central Mosque road, Zogbali, Gurugu, Choggu, Vitting, and the commercial streets.

During the march, some of the security services showcased some of their weaponry and this drew people including schoolchildren from their homes to watch the marching contingents.

Professionalism

Addressing the contingents at the end of the march, the Northern Regional Minister, Mr Abdallah Abubakar, urged the security officers to discharge their duties in the upcoming election with professionalism.

“It is heartwarming to mention that the Northern Region is currently enjoying relative peace, and it is incumbent on all of us to ensure that this peace is sustained,” he stated.

Accordingly, Mr Abubakar implored the security services in the region to continue to be vigilant and deploy their resources when necessary, to ensure a peaceful Election 2016.

He also called on the security agencies to establish an effective coordination mechanism among themselves in order to swiftly respond to electoral violence on December 7.

Collaboration

The Commanding Officer (CO) of the Sixth Garrison, Lieutenant Colonel William Kwabiah, in his brief remarks, commended the officers for attending the event in their numbers.

He said the security services would collaborate to prevent any lawless activities before, during and after the general election in the region.
