‘Scrap exemptions for foreign businesses’

The Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ideal Finance Limited, Dr Nii Kotei Dzani, has urged the government to scrap the tax exemptions foreign businesses enjoy at the expense of indigenous entrepreneurs.

According to him, the practice has crippled local businesses and entrepreneurs.

“How does the government expect local businesses to grow when it does not give a level playing field for competition to exist?” he asked.

Dr Dzani said this after cutting the sod for the construction of a six-unit classroom block at the Ada Senior High School in the Greater Accra Region.

According to him, the good training he received from tutors and the management of the school when he was a student some 20 years ago had helped him immensely.

He said the classroom was expected to be completed within six-months and would be stuffed with adequate teaching and learning aids which would help in providing the students with a conducive environment to study.

The facility would have a staff common room, toilets and other facilities to enhance quality education.

Dr Dzani said he was moved by the challenges of both teachers and students who had for the past years shared the same dormitory due to limited accommodation facilities.

Dr Dzani was hopeful that the management of the school would maintain the structure and provide the needed educational support to students while they remained at the school.

He further used the occasion to announce a scholarship package for 15 brilliant, needy students to access education to the tertiary level.

The Executive Director, Ideal Finance, Mr Charles Arkuh, said the structure would go a long way to bring relief to management of the school and create a good relationship between the people of Ada and Ideal Finance.

The Headmaster of the Ada Senior High School, Mr Tetteh Tugah, thanked Ideal Finance Limited and appealed to old students and benevolent individuals and groups to come to their aid.

The ceremony was preceded by a press launch to mark the fifth anniversary celebration of Ideal Finance since its inception. The launch was also used to highlight some of the activities to mark the celebrations.

Some of the activities include a health walk, games, symposium, and “Time with the Group CEO.”

The rest will be a donation to an orphanage, thanksgiving service and a lunch to climax the celebrations.
