According to the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Alhaji Collins Dauda, the bins were to be distributed to all the 13 assemblies in the region.

Other sanitation equipment presented were wheelbarrows, rakes and shovels, Wellington boots, machetes, hand gloves and T-shirts.

Alhaji Dauda acknowledged that the items were not enough and, therefore, called on benevolent organisations in the region to contribute to the success of the exercise.

Background

Since the inception of the monthly NSD in November last year, it had been observed simultaneously nationwide, with focus on the regions.

So far, the Greater Accra, Ashanti, Volta, Northern and Eastern regions have had their turns.

The exercise is intended to rekindle the communal spirit in the people and the need to always keep their surroundings clean.

Interest

The Upper East Regional Minister, Mr James Tiigah, called on the various municipal and district assemblies (MDAs) to whip up public interest in the upcoming event.

He also encouraged them to mobilise the necessary resources to complement those of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.

The minister expressed the hope that the people of the Upper East Region would fully participate in the exercise.
