The 31-year-old agricultural engineer shrugged off a challenge from four other contenders to retain the seat for the NDC. It is the first time Mr Sam George will be serving in parliament.

Certified results declared by the Returning Officer of the Ningo-Prampram Constituency, Mr Benjamin Quantson, on Thursday morning saw Sam George poll 23, 860 votes to defeat his closest contender, Mr Sylvester Tetteh of the NPP, who polled 13, 588 votes .

The other three candidates, namely Messrs Cashmire Nii Okai Mensa of the PPP secured 110 votes; Richard Nartey of the All People’s Congress (APC) secured 103 votes with Frederick Marmah Martey, CPP, securing 212 votes polls.

Mr George, prior to this contest cuased a political tsunami when he ended the long running parliamentary career of Mr Enoch Teye Mensah, who had been in Parliament since 1997.

The acrimonious primaries and the attendant ripples have been cited by many political pundits that it was going to impact negatively on his (Mr George's) chances in the polls. The elections in the constituency were generally peaceful.

In a victory address, Mr George thanked his campaign team, family and constituents for supporting him and opportunity to serve them.
