Rubabatu Agbesi marks birthday with orphanage

Children of the Save Them Young Mission Incorporated, an orphanage at Ashaiman, near Tema, had their Christmas celebration buoyed after receiving GH¢5,000 cash and assorted items from a philanthropist, Mrs Ruth Rubabatu Agbesi, on the eve of Christmas.

The items included 20 bags of rice, gallons of vegetable oil, boxes of indomie, cartons of milk, assorted soft drinks, 14 packs of toilet rolls, five cartons of tin tomatoes, 10 boxes of cake, 10 packs of baby diapers and boxes of assorted biscuits.

The others were five boxes of macroni, five boxes of soap, five boxes of chicken, 24 tins of sugar, and five boxes of chocolim.

The presentation, which coincided with the birthday of the benefactor, was to make the children at the orphanage feel the joy and happiness of the festive period.

X'mas means giving

Mrs Agbesi said Christmas was a season for giving, so instead of throwing a party for her friends and family, she opted to celebrate it with the children at the home as a way of giving back to her community.

"Today is my birthday and as someone who also lost both parents growing up, I appreciate the hardship these little ones go through, hence my decision to visit them and extend a helping hand to them," she stated.

Mrs Agbesi, the Chief Executive Officer of Rubatch Enterprise in Accra and Ruby's Events, an events organising company in Tamale, said having lost both parents while growing up, she had always believed in the spirit of giving back to society.

Advice

The gesture, she said, fell in line with her belief of giving back to the needy in society in order to make them happy.

She added that was her third donation to the home, adding that other institutions in Accra and Tamale had benefited from previous donations every December 24.

Mrs Agbesi advised the orphans, aged between nine months and early teens, to dedicate themselves to the ideals and commands of God Almighty, aside taking their studies seriously.

She appealed to other individuals and organisations who had the resources to show benevolence to the less privileged in the society.

Gratitude

Responding to the gesture, the Assistant Administrator of Save Them Young Orphanage, Ms Mariam Sagoe, expressed gratitude to the benefactor for supporting the upkeep of children, especially, during this yuletide.

The Save Them Young Mission Incorporated started off as a training habitat for deprived teenage mothers in 1996 but metamorphosed into an orphanage in 2009 under the mentorship of Rev. Mrs Dr Paullen Opoku-Amoabeng.

A Senior Home Mother, Ms Doreen Coffie, said the gesture would go a long way to help address some of the challenges that confronted the daily running of the facility, which has a population of 72 children.

Mrs Agbesi, accompanied by her friends, later had one-on-one interactions with the children at the home and worshipped with them.
