Royal House organises health screening

More than 2,500 members of the Royal House Chapel International (RHCI) in Accra have benefited from a medical screening exercise organised for them by the church.

They were screened for malaria, typhoid fever, blood pressure, blood sugar, the human immuno-deficiency virus (HIV), liver and kidney challenge, among other diseases.

The exercise was also used to educate the beneficiaries on healthy lifestyles.

A number of medical practitioners who are members of the church were on hand with their medical equipment and actively participated in the exercise which marked the Wellness Awareness Week (WAW) of the church.

Nutrition

Speaking at the event, the President of the Ghana Nutrition Association and Dean of the School of Biological Sciences, University of Ghana, Professor Matilda Steiner-Asiedu, said it was important for people to check their health status periodically.

She indicated that a recent study showed that children had high cholesterol and that it was not only food that determined the size of a person but that genetics too played a role.

Prof. Steiner-Asiedu said red meat, such as mutton, contained a high level of cholesterol, adding that people should consider white meat, such as rabbit, because it contained low cholesterol.

“The breast area of chicken also has low cholesterol. However, the thigh of a chicken has a high level of cholesterol,” she added.

She encouraged members of the RHCI to eat breakfast daily to ensure that their brains got glucose to start the day.

She also underscored the need for people to engage in physical exercise to excrete waste and burn excess fat from their bodies.

Health and religion

The Executive Pastor of the RHCI, Rev. King Foli, observed that since a healthy mind lived in a healthy body, it was good for people to adopt measures that would make them stay healthy.

He said everybody owed it a duty to live long to proclaim God’s Word and fulfill His assignment on earth.

“According to 1 Timothy 1: 8, bodily exercise is profitable,” he said.

Rev. Foli, therefore, encouraged members to participate in the activities in order to enjoy good health and the blessings of God.
