The Castle Road from the AU Circle to the Osu Cemetery Traffic Light will also be closed, while the Starlets 95 Road will be closed at the Ministries Traffic Light Intersection.

Traffic diversion

Traffic from the 28th February Road, La, Labone and Osu heading towards the central business district (CBD) of Accra will be diverted onto the Salem Avenue at the Castle Traffic Light to link up with the Oxford Street.

Traffic from the John Evans Atta Mills High Street towards the Black Star Square will be diverted onto the Liberia Road at the Customs Headquarters Traffic Light towards the National Theatre Traffic Light Intersection.

The police have, therefore, advised motorists from the Lokko Street towards the Castle Road to use the Ajumaku Street and the Oxford Street.

According to the police, traffic from the AU Circle towards the Castle Road through the Osu Cemetery Traffic Light would be diverted onto the Abdul Diouf and the King Hassan roads to link with the Gamal Abdul Nasser Road in front of the Ghana Institute of Journalism.

A statement from the police further indicated that “vehicles with appropriate anniversary embossed stickers, such as red, gold and green, will be allowed to park at the Black Star Square arena”.

Car parks

According to the police, some areas earmarked for car parking at the event are the forecourt of the State House, the Accra International Conference Centre, the Access Bank car park, the Osu Cemetery car park, the Accra Sports Stadium car park, as well as the Ministries area.

“No vehicle will be allowed to park at unauthorised places or drive through these road blockages. Security vehicles and vehicles carrying dignitaries will be allowed after thorough checks.

“Traffic police officers will be on hand to direct and assist motorists to appropriate car parks and diverted roads.

“Towing cars will be available to tow any abandoned, disabled or wrongly parked vehicle at the event grounds and owners will be surcharged,” the statement added.
