A medical team of 15 doctors and 15 nurses, led by Dr Sellasie Brown from the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) in Accra undertook the two-day programme last Saturday and Sunday, which provided eye screening, checking the people’s vitals such as blood pressure (BP), pulse, weight and body mass index (BMI).

For the eye testing, those who deserved medication and spectacles, as a result of glaucoma and other defects were provided freely while other drugs were also given out for free for those diagnosed to have defective health conditions.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Wassa East, Mr Isaac Adjei-Mensah, who briefed the Daily Graphic during the exercise at Wassa Essaman, explained that the programme had been ongoing in the constituency as part of his social responsibility to the people.

Mr Adjei-Mensah, who is also the Deputy Minister of Roads and Highways further indicated that the Wassa area was prone to Onchocerciasis and other ailments such as malaria, BP, and diabetes hence his decision to mobilize his personal resources and collaborate with Tobinco Pharmaceuticals and other partners to offer the people the best health care to enable them remained very fit, especially with the elections in sight.

According to the medical team, the exercise was designed to for both children and the aged, and that they were there to offer their support to the MP to provide service to his constituents.

Earlier at a mini rally, Mr Adjei-Mensah appealed to both members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to unite with the sole purpose for the effective development of the area.

He Noted that even though the Wassa area was endowed with rich natural resources, such as gold, timber and cocoa there had not been any meaningful development for the people to enjoy, adding that it was under his three-and-a-half-year stewardship as an MP that the area was now witnessing some level of progress.

The MP, therefore, appealed to the electorate to vote massively for him and President John Mahama so that they would continue to enjoy more development projects in the areas of education, health, agriculture, improved road network as well as better water and sanitation facilities.

The NDC constituency Chairman, Mr George Bamfo, who is also the campaign manager for the parliamentary candidate, also appealed to the people to renew the mandate of Mr Adjei-Mensah and M Mahama, saying that, the MP’s representation had brought unparalled development to the Wassa area.

Madam Amina Ali, the NDC constituency women organizer noted that but for Mr Adjei-Mensah, the people would not have known anything about the existence of MP’s common fund, explaining that the MP had judiciously applied his share of the fund to assist in the education of students at all levels and a remarkable improvement in then road network which hitherto was in a deplorable state.
