Reporter shot dead at Goaso

A 40-year-old reporter of Success FM, a radio station at Goaso in the Brong Ahafo Region, King George Abanga, has been shot dead by unknown assailants.

The reporter, who also worked for Peace FM in Accra, was returning from Sankore to Goaso at about 5 p.m. last Thursday, September 10, 2015, on a motorbike when he was shot and killed by the assailants.

The motive of his assailants is yet to be established but it is believed to be connected with his stories on the grievances of some cocoa farmers over stolen fertilisers in the area.

According to the police, when they received information about the shooting, they rushed to the scene to take the victim to the Goaso Government Hospital, where he was declared dead.

Briefing
The Brong Ahafo Regional Crime Officer, Superintendent  Alhaji Maama Arhin, who briefed the Daily Graphic on the incident, explained that the motorbike which he rode had been left at the scene, while the wallet in his pocket containing money, mobile phones and pendrives were all intact.

“We cannot suspect robbery at the moment. Also, he is not around to tell us what happened; that is why we are treating this as murder,” Superintendent Arhin said.

No arrests have been made so far, but the police have mounted a manhunt for the suspected assailants.
