Remain focused on sanitation exercise — Collins Dauda
The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Alhaji Collins Dauda, has asked the public to remain focused on the monthly National Sanitation Day (NSD) exercises.

He said the continued implementation of the NSD would help create a healthy environment and reduce medical bills, adding, "there will be reduction in cholera and other illnesses caused by insanitary conditions."
Alhaji Dauda said this when he joined residents of Suhum in the Eastern Region to clean their surroundings during the monthly NSD, last Saturday.
Participation
The exercise, which started at 6 a.m., was attended by a large number of residents including market women, drivers and mechanics.
They swept and collected refuse that had been dumped in the bushes, along the road and in open drains.
By 7.30 a.m., the market women, with support from workers of Zoomlion Ghana Limited and the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), had cleared the entire market and the lorry station of filth.
The exercise was led by the Suhum Municipal Chief Executive, Ms Margaret Ansei, and the Chief of Suhum, Nana Ayeh Kofi.
Alhaji Dauda also used the occasion to meet the Muslim community at Suhum to discuss issues on sanitation.
Concerns
He expressed concern that most people waited till the NSD day to clean their environment and advised that "we must all inculcate the habit of ensuring a clean and healthy environment at all times because our lives depend on how we treat our surroundings."
Alhaji Dauda lauded Ms Ansei, the chief of the area and residents for their active involvement and massive turnout for the exercise.
Commitment
Ms Ansei observed that over the past few months, residents of Suhum had demonstrated much commitment to the NSD exercise.
She said the assembly had also ensured that the people complied with sanitation by-laws.
She stressed that "this has made our city one of the cleanest in the country."
For his part, the Chief of Suhum, Nana Ayeh Kofi, gave an assurance that he would continue to lead the people to undertake self-help programmes.
