Rebecca Foundation signs educational exchange programme
Rebecca Foundation, a charitable arm of the Office of the First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Licang District Experimental School in Qingdao, China for an exchange programme.

The programme will see 10 pupils from the school coming to study in Ghana while 10 pupils from Ghana will also go to study in China.
The aim of the exchange programme is to deepen cultural relations between the two countries.
Through the exchange of cultures, the pupils from China will benefit from especially training in soccer while the pupils from Ghana will also be taught table tennis (ping pong).

The MoU
The Licang Experimental Primary School has a population of 1,200 pupils with modern classrooms and recreational facilities, including an Astroturf football field.
The foundation aims to improve the lives of women and children in Ghana.
The MoU was signed by Mrs Sheilla Laryea from the Office of the First Lady and witnessed by a Deputy Minister of Education in charge of Tertiary Education, Professor Kwesi Yankah, while the Director General, Education and Sports Bureau of the Licang District in China, Mr Wang Xiaoguang, signed for the school and was witnessed by the Chairperson of the Belt and Road Collaborative Innovation Centre (BRCIC), Ms Zhang Lu.
The MoU, which was signed in the presence of the First Lady, Ghana’s Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, Mr Edward Boateng, the Principal of the Licang Experimental Primary School, Ms Yang Jianying, and the Deputy District Head of Licang District, Ms Wei Ruixue, is also to promote corporation between Ghana and China in the areas of primary education.
Recreation
In a remark, Prof. Yankah said soccer was one of Ghana’s biggest recreational programmes in schools, which has helped in the nurturing of many sports icons.
The First Lady said the foundation had made it a focus to work in promoting the interest of mothers and their children.
She commended the Chinese for their sense of discipline, saying the exchange programme would help inculcate some of their values in the participating children.
