Rawlings commends school for high performance

Former President Rawlings, has commended students of the Mamfe-Akwapim Methodist Girls High School for their high performance at the Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship (SAGE) World Cup in Ukraine-Odessa.

Students from the school who represented Ghana at the competition placed fifth out of the 32 participating countries.

He congratulated the students for their feat and called on the state and corporate Ghana to offer them the needed moral and logistical support to ensure that their “little project blooms into a great example of what young people, especially women and girls, can do to uplift themselves and society.”

Competition

The competition which moulds the youth to become entrepreneurs and helps them establish great businesses had a total of 32 countries competing.

The delegates were introduced at a grand opening ceremony in Odessa followed by the Big Boss forum held at the Odessa conference room where delegates were trained on how to enhance their business modules.

The day ended with a gala cultural night where all countries performed. The Ghanaian team and other competing countries mounted exhibition stands for the competition monitored by judges.

The competition was crowned with an awards gala dinner where various prizes were given to the delegates. Team Ghana took an award for Sustainable Development Goal 8 (decent work and economic growth) and took the overall fifth position.

 Ecstatic students

The ecstatic students who had a great time called on the youth to make good use of their time even while in school.

The group thanked former President Rawlings and the First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo for the various forms of support they offered the delegation prior to their trip to Ukraine.

Prior to their trip, the SAGE group called on the former President and presented him with some of their artefacts, including a beautiful cushion crafted from disused vehicle tyres and photographs of eminent persons, including President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Members of the delegation included Liza Mildred Wordzro, Belinda Addy, Eunice Agyeiwaa Hinson, Elizabeth Anning and Abena Frimpongmaa Awudzie.

The rest were the Headmistress of the school, Ms Sylvia Yirenkyi; patrons, Gladstone Nditsi Kwawukume and Catherine Bakudie, Coach Alfred Ahwireng and Josephine Dnni, a member of staff.
