Officials from the Asokwa office of the GRA last Friday locked up the park and forced workers out of the facility but after a meeting with officials of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), owners of the facility, it was re-opened.

The Public Relations Officer of the KMA, Mr Godwin Nyame, told Graphic Online that his outfit was going to comply with the directives by the GRA to get the place registered.

He, however, hinted that there were few issues that needed to be cleared with the revenue collectors since the Rattray Park, just like the zoo, were to be exempted from VAT.

The Rattray Park, which was named after Captain Robert Rattray, a Scotsman who was the Assistant Colonial Secretary in the Gold Coast and clerk to the Legislative Assembly of Accra in 1919.

He crash-landed at the current site which was constructed one-and-a-half years ago during the reign of former CEO of the KMA, Mr Kojo Bonsu.

It is Ghana’s foremost centre for all kinds of recreational activities and a major tourist site in the Ashanti region.
