As a gender activist, she pledged to serve, lead and bring on board many innovative ways to support her chiefs towards uplifting the standard of women, youth and children in the community.

Nana Kugbeadzor-Bakatei, who is also the Executive Director of Global Action for Women Empowerment (GLOWA), said a vigorous agenda would be pursued to empower women, youth and children to keep them well-informed on issues that affected their lives and would also provide enough space, voices and empowerment for socio-economic development in the community and beyond.

Coronation ceremony

In a speech at her coronation, Nana Kugbeadzor-Bakatei asked for support from the chiefs and people to enable her to achieve her dreams of helping to improve their lives while serving them.

She said the education of children, especially girls, would continue to be her priority during her tenure in office as the queenmother and pleaded with parents to invest in their children’s education and proper upbringing.

“Numerous clothes, heavy hairdos, high expenses on alcoholic beverages must gradually give way to savings towards giving our children the best quality of education”, she said.

Nana Kugbeadzor-Bakatei announced that she would support any needy girl who was able to pass the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) with an aggregate from 6-15 for entry into a senior high school each year.

Educational Fund

She also launched a Likpe-Abrani Gudeve Educational Fund with seed money of GH¢1,000 to commemorate her coronation.

Touching on the upcoming elections, she said, “an election characterised with violence should not be an option to Ghanaians because there is no history of a violent election that had made any nation better but you and I are living testimonies to the good attributes of peaceful elections”.

“Whatever perceptions we hold about the challenges confronting us in recent times, I can assure you all that, we can never chose a violent and chaotic election over a peaceful one as a tool to dealing with the challenges of today,” she stated.

The Volta Regional head of Business Education Unit of the GES, Togbe Dzidoa I, thanked the kingmakers for selecting the queenmother, adding that her achievement must serve as a benchmark for young girls to strive for excellence, and also cooperate with her to achieve her goals.

The chief of Abrani Gudeve, Nana Akoto-Ambor III, said the enstoolment of the new queenmother was a positive step in line with the new wind for development that had started blowing in the community.

He advised the people to conduct themselves well in the upcoming elections in order not to get into confrontation with the law.

Goodwill messages were delivered by the queenmothers’ association of the Likpe Traditional Area, St Francis of Assisi Parish of Ho, the Volta Region Girls’ Education Unit and GLOWA board and staff.
