He said the President had exhibited a peaceful, calm and gentle posture and had also spread development across the country, qualities and an achievement the regent said would enable the President to win the December 7 general election.

The Kampakuya-Na made the remarks when the President paid a courtesy call on him at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi on Wednesday as part of the President’s re-election campaign tour of the Northern Region.

President Mahama received a rousing welcome from residents and supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Yendi.

The Regent commended him for the numerous development projects that his government had undertaken across the country.

"I like the peaceful manner in which you have conducted your affairs, coupled with the numerous infrastructural projects you have undertaken, and Insha Allah you will get the second term," Na Yakubu Andani said to cheers from the gathering.

Peaceful election

The Regent of Dagbon urged the President to ensure that this year's elections were peaceful, since without peace no meaningful development could take place.

President Mahama, for his part, pledged that he would ensure that the elections were conducted peacefully.

He gave an assurance that the government would continue to deliver on its promises and ensure that every traditional area got its fair share of development projects.

Rally

Some residents of Yendi and supporters of the NDC welcomed President Mahama to the municipality with a rally.

Addressing them, the President reiterated that the NDC was a peace loving party.

President Mahama added that one of the major assets of the NDC government had been the continued peace and stability the nation was enjoying.

Eastern Corridor Road

President Mahama debunked the assertion in certain quarters that the construction of the Eastern Corridor road had been halted and said that the Brazilian government had made funds available for the project.

He assured the people that the government would tackle the Yendi-Zabuzugu-Tatale roads to make travelling easier for all.

Zabuzugu

The Regent of Zabzugu, Na Mahama Salifu Lagfu, also commended President Mahama for the numerous development projects that had been undertaken by his government across the country.

When the President paid a courtesy call on the regent earlier in the day, Na Lagfu said the development projects undertaken by President Mahama were unparalleled, save the period of Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

He, however, appealed to the government to re-construct the Zabzugu-Yendi road to facilitate business activities and to improve the livelihood of the people.

President Mahama stated that his government was focused on improving the road network in the country and promised that the Zabuzugu-Yendi road would be tackled.
