Prez inaugurates library in Wa
President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday inaugurated a modern library complex for the Ghana Library Authority (GLA) in Wa. The library was funded by the GETFund.

The facility is capable of seating 200 adults and 160 children in well-demarcated compartments.
It also has offices, an Internet café, an information and communications technology (ICT) training centre, a restaurant, staff common rooms, among other facilities.
User facility
In his address, Mr Mahama noted that libraries were still relevant and urged students and the public to make good use of the facility.
He promised to meet the staffing and other logistical needs of the GLA in order that their work would be enhanced.
The President further gave an assurance to provide a brand-new vehicle for the library to improve its transportation needs.
He said similar libraries were being constructed in Ho and Sunyani in the Volta and Brong Ahafo regions, respectively.
According to him, the government attached great importance to education and that was why eight community day senior high schools were being built in the UWR.
He said he was sure to inaugurate all eight schools before the end of the year.
Evaluation report
The President said the government was studying an evaluation report on the conversion of the three polytechnics in the north into universities and that once the schools met the criteria, they would be converted.
He urged authorities of educational institutions in the region that received vehicles from the Government recently to take good care of them. The donated vehicles comprised 15 buses and four pick-ups.
President Mahama also inspected some ongoing projects such as the Central Administration Block and Library on the Wa campus of the University for Development Studies (UDS) to acquaint himself with progress of work.
The Executive Director of the GLA, Mr Kwaku Ofosu-Tenkorang, urgently requested that the government provide the institution with logistics, vehicles and staff so that it could improve on its performance.
The President of the Upper West Regional House of Chiefs, Dr Charles Pouire Puobe Chir VII, expressed his gratitude to the President for the visit and said he was happy with the many projects being undertaken in the region.
He, however, mentioned the Lawra-Hamile-Bolgatanga and Jirapa-Nandom highways as roads in the region that were in in a deplorable state.
