Akufo-Addo expresses trust in Plan Ghana’s development commitment

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has acknowledged the good work that Plan International Ghana has been doing over the years.

He observed that there was so much the organisation and the government could do to alleviate poverty, especially among marginalised groups.

The President stated this during a courtesy call on him by the Country Director of Plan International Ghana, Madam Fadimata Alainchar, at the Flagstaff House in Accra.

He expressed confidence in Plan International Ghana’s commitment to rural development and called for more collaborative initiatives between the government and international non-governmental agencies in the country.

According to him, the One Village, One Dam is dear to him and he is eager to see it materialise.

Briefing on Plan International Ghana’s work

Madam Alainchar briefed the President about the work the organisation had done in rural communities over the past 23 years and shared relevant areas and achievements in education, health, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), child protection and economic security.

Key among the issues discussed was Plan International Ghana’s dam construction in the Tumu area of the Upper West Region.

She indicated that the government’s One Village, One Dam initiative was very laudable.

She, however, said it would require effective community and youth mobilisation to enable the government to achieve its objectives. She intimated that Plan International Ghana had the relevant experience and expertise in community and youth mobilisation and could collaborate with the government in that regard.

Way forward

The President urged Plan International Ghana to collaborate with the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection to support more marginalised groups to realise their potential.
