Addressing teeming supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at a night rally at Asamankese last Tuesday, he said it was no sin to borrow to undertake infrastructure projects.

The President stated that what the government had been doing "makes sense"  because the massive infrastructure projects undertaken had laid a solid foundation for socio-economic advancement.

President Mahama is in the Eastern Region campaigning towards the December 7 election.

He condemned the opposition NPP for its baseless criticisms of government policies.

Enthusiasm

The rally was held at about 7 p.m. with chiefs of the area in attendance.

The energy, zeal and enthusiasm with which the supporters met the NDC Presidential Candidate was incredible.

The President's convoy was met some 500 km away from the rally ground by teeming supporters and the motorcade had to move slowly as the NDC faithful surged forward.

President Mahama’s speech touched on salient points, which sought to portray the achievements of his government and what he intends to do in the next term, while seeking to discredit the opposition.

Linkages

Stressing the importance of socio-economic infrastructure, President Mahama said what he was doing was akin to what the United States (US) Democratic Party's presidential candidate, Hilary Clinton, had promised to do if she emerged victorious in the election.

He told the crowd that Mrs Clinton had promised to invest $250 billion in economic and social infrastructure because she knew what infrastructure could do for national progress.

President Mahama said from the work the government had done so far, it was important for the electorate to renew his mandate to build on the foundation.

Job creation

President Mahama reiterated the promise that the next Mahama government would create 400,000 jobs under the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) with emphasis on skills training.

He, therefore, urged the youth to avail themselves of the opportunity when the time comes.
