The Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) has congratulated Ghanaians on their show of maturity during and after the just-ended presidential and parliamentary elections.

“The peaceful nature of the election and the calm posture of both the winning and the losing presidential candidates, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and President John Dramani Mahama, respectively, after the elections, have given concrete expression to the oft-repeated claim that the Ghanaian is, generally, God-fearing, tolerant and peace-loving,” it said.

A statement signed by the Moderator of the General Assembly, Rt Rev. Prof. Cephas Narh Omenyo, said those were great strengths on which Ghanaians must build in their collective efforts to achieve their national goals.

Success

It commended the Electoral Commission (EC), the security services, the Judiciary, and the media for the important roles they played toward the success of the election.

“It is our hope that the reassuring sense of responsibility and commitment to the national interest demonstrated in the past few days by the various stakeholders will grow and not diminish. These are virtues we need for our nation to develop,” it said.

The statement called on all Ghanaians to keep on praying with the same enthusiasm as before the election because “we need the favour of God to achieve our collective goals for a prosperous Ghana.”

It said the favour of God on the nation was more urgently needed now than ever.

Condemnation

It condemned the reprisal attacks by supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
