He said most of the agitation that led to industrial strike could be prevented if the government had engaged the labour groups regularly to know their concerns.

Speaking at a forum with the heads of the various trade union groups under the TUC in Accra yesterday, Dr Nduom also said his government would not allow a Public Private Partnership programme to exist under his watch.

“I do not believe in PPPs but I believe in using state money to support local businesses to grow,” he said.

The forum was part of PPP’s agenda to explain to the leadership of the TUC the policy statement the party intended to implement, should Dr Nduom win the presidential slot of the December 7 polls.

Result-oriented programmes

Outlining the party’s vision for the country, Dr Nduom said every policy statement made by the party was properly designed to address economic issues that had retarded Ghana’s growth.

Under his leadership, the PPP flag bearer said focus would be placed on the creation of jobs, offering of free compulsory education from the basic level to the senior high school level, halting the importation of food crops and addressing preventable diseases.

On infrastructural development, Dr Nduom said no road contract would be given to a foreign firm “whether they gave us the money or not”.

He said more than half of the problems confronting Ghana’s economic development could be addressed if efficient policies were put in place by the government.

TUC ready to partner

In his welcome address, the General Secretary of TUC, Dr Yaw Baah, emphasised the readiness of the Congress to work with political parties to address challenges confronting the working population.

He said the TUC would open its arms to any government provided “they are ready to work with us”.

Dr Baah commended Dr Nduom for making a lot of investment that had created jobs for the people.,

He also urged him to ensure that issues that affected the wellbeing of his workers were properly addressed.
