PPP, CPP, UDSP others file nominations; EC accepts PPP's filing fee

The Progressive Peoples Party and the Unity Development System Party (UDSP) Friday morning filed their nominations in order for their flagbearers, Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom and WO1 Richard Nixson Tetteh to become candidates for Election 2016.

The National Chairman of the PPP, Nii Allotey Brew Hammond and National Treasurer Mr Felix Ograh filed the nomination on behalf of the flagbearer, Dr Nduom, Graphic Online's Jasmine Arku reported from the headquarters of the Electoral Commission in Accra.

In a dramatic twist, the Electoral Commission accepted the filing fees of the PPP when the party chairman, Nii Hammond presented it.

The EC Chairperson, Mrs Charlotte Osei said the PPP knew of the legal implications and still brought the money, so they [EC] have accepted it.

Even though Nii Hammond asked that the money be returned to him, the EC declined and kept it. 

For the USDP, their founder and leader who is also the flagbearer, WO1 Richard Nixson Tetteh (pictured above) filed the nomination personally.

The flagbearer of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), Henry Lartey submited his nomination in the company of his running mate John Ameka.

The Convention Peoples Party's Ivor Greenstreet on his part submitted the nomination with his running mate Nana Gabby Nsiah Nketia.

The PNC flagbearer Dr Edward Mahama filed his nomination in the company of National Chairman Bernard Mornah and General Secretary Atik Mohammed.

Mr George Boateng, the man who had wanted to contest President John Mahama in the NDC presidential primary but was disqualified was also the EC and according to him he was there on behalf of an independent aspirant, Mr Lawrence Nketiah Kutin who has picked him as his running mate.

When he was asked to write the name of the he kept confusing himself as the candidate and said he was not there to file and that they have filed a petition for an extension and an exemption for the date and fees respectively.

Mr Boateng said they filed their petition three days ago. He left the EC without filing their nomination.

Independent aspirant Jacob Osei Yeboah (JOY) also submitted his nomination. He was there with his running mate, Daniel Wilson Torto.

Another independent aspirant, Kwame Asiedu Walker also filed his nomination with his running mate Lady Tamara.

  

The veteran Thomas Ward Brew of the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP)as usual was at the EC but did not have his nomination papers with him. His explanation was that his running mate, Nii Oto Otoo had it.

The running mate, Nii Otoo arrived at the EC at about 4:50pm,  10 minutes to the deadline. They successfully handed the documents to the EC.
