Portions of Asamankese-Akwatia highway bad

Portions of the Asamankese-Akwatia highway have developed large potholes, making a journey on the road a nightmare for motorists and passengers.

Particularly bad is the 800–metre stretch in front of the Asamankese lorry station which impedes vehicular movement, generating long traffic jams, especially during rush hours.

The Chief of Asamankese, Osabarima Adu Darko III, has therefore called on the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) and the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) to urgently work on that section, since it has been left unattended to for over 18 months.

Heavy traffic

“This has made the heart of the town unattractive coupled with heavy traffic along the road. Some sections even have broken slabs on culverts within the carriageway, posing danger to motorists and pedestrians, especially at night,” he added.

According to Osabarima Darko III, the situation is affecting economic activities in Asamankese as the local market is located within the area.

“We, therefore, appeal to your outfit to expedite work on this section to bring respite to commuters and inhabitants who have been starved for 18 months without pipe-borne water, since the utility lines have been destroyed”.

Asamankese–Suhum road

Touching on the Asamankese–Suhum road, Osabarima Darko III bemoaned the nature of a portion along Anum Apapam -Asamankese, which had developed huge gullies as a result of the recent rains.

He appealed to the Ghana Highway Authority to come to the aid of the people of the area, since any delay in fixing the problem could cut off the area from adjoining towns such as Suhum and Asamankese.

When contacted the West Akyem Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Seth Oduro Boadu, supported the call by Osabarima Darko and expressed the hope that the deteriorated roads would receive the necessary attention.
