According to the Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, Superintendent Cephas Arthur, police personnel’s will concentrate their efforts in regulating traffic flow in most congested parts of the country. He however, added that routine crime checks will remain in force.

Explaining the necessity for the new directive on Accra-based Joy FM he said "It is about the exigencies of the time. We realised that the concern now is about the traffic congestion in our cities and towns."

We want to focus our attention on traffic in order to create a more congenial atmosphere for commuters in our cities and towns, therefore personnel on highway patrol are to limit their operations to inspection of cars for drugs and ammunitions only.

We also realised the attention or focus (on vehicle checking) is too much on documentation which is not so much a matter of concern to Ghanaians, adding that the directive will be in force until further notice and will be reviewed as and when it matters.

All police units are debarred from conducting motor checks, he concluded.
