Police investigate alleged assault on policeman at Flagstaff House
The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service is investigating the alleged attack on a police officer by unknown assailants at the Flagstaff House in Accra.

The Head of the Public Affairs Directorate of the Police Service, Superintendent Cephas Arthur, said the Police Administration intended to investigate the attack and bring the perpetrators to book.

He said the Police Administration had, therefore, tasked the CID to conduct thorough investigations into the alleged assault in order to get to the bottom of the matter.
On January 9, 2017, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s first day in office, heavily built civilians believed to be members of the Invisible Forces, a vigilante group associated with the New Patriotic Party, were captured in a video attacking a police officer at the Flagstaff House.
The video of the assault, which went viral on social media, revealed how members of the vigilante group chased the officer, named as ASP Nanka Bruce, who sought refuge in a police vehicle.
Officer brutalised
The officer, believed to be one of the guards at the Flagstaff House during the John Mahama administration, was seen moving out of the Flagstaff House but was stopped by an armed military officer and subsequently brutalised and forced out of his car, despite attempts by senior police officers to restore order.
The heavily built men pushed and shoved the uniformed police officer until a few military men went to the scene to control the situation.
Incident revealed
The National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Kofi Adams, made reference to the said incident during a media interview a few weeks ago.
“You have these people [Invisible Forces] move not just to tollbooths and other places but even to the Flagstaff House, beat up uniformed persons and tear up their clothes and then claim they [Invisible forces] are in charge,” he had said.
