Play effective roles for national devt — Rev. Ahuma

The Clerk of the Dangme-Tongu Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), Rev. Emmanuel A. Ahuma, has asked Ghanaians to play their respective roles effectively to ensure the accelerated development of the nation.

“I want to caution all of us to stop complaining, particularly as we gear up towards Election 2016. We all have roles to play in building our nation and that role is not for a single individual. The more we complain, the more we lose focus on our calling,” he stated.

Launch

He made the call when he preached a sermon on the theme: “Be faithful to your calling” at the launch of the Dangme edition of the PCG liturgy book at Big-Ada in the Dangme East District in the Greater Accra Region.

Rev. Ahuma said Ghanaians must be faithful in whatever they do in the interest of the nation, instead of sitting aloof and complaining.

He noted with concern that as the country prepared for this year’s general election, both politicians and the electorate had begun the blame game, adding that “the more you shift blame, the more you lose concentration”.

Hate speech

According to him, hate speeches and foul language by some politicians and their followers would not unify the country but rather breed hatred and animosity, stressing: “Are we not the same people, the same country with the same destiny?”

Rev. Ahuma also advised the youth to focus on building their careers and not allow themselves to be used to cause mayhem in the country by self-seeking politicians.

Tribute

The Chairperson of the Presbytery, Rev. Fred Nuer Appertey, paid tribute to his predecessor, Rev. Nii Teiko Dagadu, who saw the need to translate the liturgy from English to Dangme.

He further commended the team of presbyters who contributed in diverse ways to ensure that the exercise was carried out successfully.

“Whenever you read any material or text and you understand the words, it enhances your understanding of the text and that is exactly what the team of translators has done,’’ he indicated.

The Queen mother of Amlakpo in the Ada Traditional Area, Nanaa Adede Akrofi I, bought the first copy of the book for GH¢500.

The Paramount Chief of the Ada Traditional Area, Nene Abram Kabu Akuaku III, said the area needed peace and unity for development.

“We need development in Ada and, therefore, we need absolute peace to prevail to bring about the needed development,” he said.
