The school took the first position out of 201 schools at the district level, and was fifth at the regional level (Greater Accra). It further obtained the 11th position at the national level in the 2016 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Presenting the award to the school during a short ceremony to commemorate Ghana’s 60th Independence Day celebrations in Accra, Madam Welbeck advised parents to prioritise their children’s education to inspire them to give their best in academics and other school-related activities.

The nation’s future

Madam Welbeck said “the future of our nation depends on these little ones and so I will plead that we do not relegate their education to the background. Let’s focus on the importance of education and the future of our children to make our country a better place.”

She also mentioned that the GES, with support from the municipal assembly, would do its best to improve the educational infrastructure in the municipality, and further encouraged all stakeholders to contribute their quota to promote national development.

Excelling through unity

The Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr Charles Djany, who delivered a speech on behalf of the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, said Ghana had a bright future in development and could only excel through unity.

According to him, “the challenge before us is to build our economy and generate a prosperous, progressive and dignified life for the mass of our people. Hard work, enterprise, creativity, discipline and a consistent and effective fight against corruption in public life would bring the transformation we seek.”

He, therefore, urged all to exhibit the pride of being a Ghanaian to realise our potential and build lives of dignity to make Ghana’s independence meaningful.

The Headmistress and Proprietress of Platinum Montessori School, Madam Beatrice Adoh, on behalf of the school, expressed appreciation for being recognised in their efforts to improve formal education in the municipality.

Three students from the school: Selina Antwi, Theodora Kwatey and Nyira Maison, who are currently first-year students at Wesley Girls’ and Achimota Senior High schools respectively, were also awarded for outstanding performances in the 2016 BECE.
