Pile-up kills 2 at Pokuase
An articulated truck which had a brake failure yesterday ran into seven vehicles, crushing two persons to death at Pokuase on the Accra-Kumasi road.

One of the two, whose identities were not immediately known, was a taxi driver, while the other was a carpet seller.
One taxicab, two private cars and the Scania articulated truck were damaged beyond repairs, while another taxi, a mini-truck and a 4x4 Ford vehicle had minor damages.
Eye Witness
According to an eyewitness, Mr Kojo Appiah, the long vehicle, which was loaded with cement, had a brake failure when it was descending from John Teye towards Pokuase and ran into other vehicles ahead.
He said although the carpet seller saw the articulated truck speeding towards him he could not escape the accident.

The Station Officer of the Amasaman Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD), Chief Inspector James Nsiah, confirmed that the Scania articulated truck, with registration number GW 1617-10, smashed seven vehicles ahead of it when its brakes failed.
Apart from those who lost their lives, Mr Nsiah said, three other persons, including the driver of the articulated truck, identified as Isaka Amidu, sustained severe injuries
He said the three injured persons were taken to the Police Hospital, while the articulated driver was taken to the 37 Military Hospital for treatment.
At the time of filing this report, all the vehicles which were involved in the accident had been cleared from the road to allow for free vehicular movement.
