Peace Council receives support from EU, UNDP
The European Union (EU) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have presented office furniture and equipment worth GH¢220,000 to the National Peace Council (NPC).

The items, which were presented through the Insider Mediators Project (IMP), included laptops, desktop computers, projectors, office chairs and desks.
The IMP is a three-year partnership project between the EU and the UNDP that seeks to strengthen the national and regional peace councils to deliver on their mandate of preventing conflict and peace mediation.

Commendation
In his remarks at the presentation ceremony, the Head of the Political Section of the EU delegation in Ghana, Mr Paolo Salvia, commended the NPC for its role in maintaining the peace in the country.
He called on those who questioned the relevance of the NPC to critically assess “what Ghana will be without the Peace Council”.
A representative of the UNDP, Mr Louis Kuukpen, for his part, said the UNDP understood the correlation between peace and development, hence the support.
“As a development-oriented organisation, the UNDP realises the inextricable nexus between peace and development and, therefore, cherishes its relationship with the National Peace Council,” he said.
Response
The Chairman of the NPC, Most Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante, expressed appreciation to the donors and called on other partners of the council to continue with their support.
"We will say that you should not wash your hands off us. We will always continue to look up to you. By taking care of the NPC, you are taking care of the development of this nation because without peace, there will be nothing," he said.
