Sponsored by Hisense, an electronic company, and Mama Vits Rice and Noodle, a local food company, the programme drew a number of female porters who entertained themselves with music and dance. About 22 children of the beneficiaries of the project took part in the dance competition.

It also provided an opportunity for one of the foster mothers of the kayayei at Mamobi, Madam Magarette Abossey, to enlighten the girls on the dangers of teenage pregnancy and the need to report or prevent all forms of abuse.

Speaking at the programme, the Managing Director of Hisense, Alhaji Amadu Yahaya, said the greatest motivation of a corporate body was to put smiles on the faces of children; hence their involvement in the event.

 Humanitarian events

Mr Prince Randy Opoku Afriyie, the Operations Manager of Mama Vits Rice and Noodle, said his outfit was always honoured to participate in humanitarian events and to be part of programmes that exposed them to children.

The winners of the dance competition were presented with kettles from Hisense and products from Mama Vits Rice and Noodle as their Christmas gift.

In another development, the Chief Executive of the Abrempong Holdings Group of Companies, Mr Kweku Amoafo Meshack, has donated 10 sewing machines to equip the Kejetia Kayayei Resettlement Centre in Kumasi to enhance the training of kayayei in vocational skills.

Mr Meshack presented the items and stated that training the youth to acquire vocational skills was a positive step to harness their potential for the nation’s socio-economic development.

The Project Director of the Pamela Bridgewater Project,  Mr Yahaya Alhassan, announced that work on the centre, which has a clinic, was expected to be completed by July 2016 and made available not just for use by kayayei, but by others like the Kejetia market women.
