Over 6,000 households in Volta Region get power
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has extended power supply to over 6,000 households in deprived communities in the Volta Region this year.

The initiative was in collaboration with central government under the Self Help Electrification Project (SHEP) and the ECG’s Rural Electrification Project (REP).
Detail of project
Under the projects, beneficiaries were freely supplied with poles, electrical cables, transformers and all infrastructure required to bring electricity to the doorstep of consumers.
The Volta Regional General Manager of the ECG, Mr Joseph Mensah Forson, said this at an interaction with journalists in Ho.
He said after the installation of the infrastructure, customers in beneficiary communities paid a subsidised amount of GH¢60 to draw services to their homes instead of the mandatory GH¢400 charged for the same service.
Mr Forson said beneficiaries were drawn from nine out of the 11 operational districts in the region which are, Ho, Hohoe, Kpando, Kpeve, Jasikan, Nkwanta, Akatsi, Keta and Denu.
He said the ECG spent GH¢2,880,000 on 81 development projects in the Volta Region in 2014, while in 2015, GH¢2,752,000 was spent on 51 development projects, adding that as of September this year, a total of GH¢875,000 had been spent on 26 completed projects in the region.
Bad effect of bush fires
Mr Forson lamented the destruction of transmission lines, adding that 294 high voltage poles were burnt in 2015 alone, causing a loss of GH¢ 259,951.86 to the company.
He said the company had embarked on the replacement of wooden poles with steel tubular poles which were more resistant to fire.
