The victims were killed after the fuel station where they had gone to seek shelter caught fire after heavy rains resulted in flooding at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle and its surrounding areas.
A statement issued by the oil company said, “The evening of Wednesday, 3rd June, 2015 goes down as a dark day in the annals of GOIL and our dear nation Ghana. We the Board, Management and Staff remain totally shocked and share in the pain of all families and friends who lost their loved ones during the unfortunate fire gutting incident…”
The statement added that GOIL lost eight of its staff who were serving clients at the time the incident occurred.
“Our hearts go out to all the bereaved families and the entire people of Ghana… We are fully committed to partnering all stakeholders in all investigations surrounding this disaster,” the statement said.
