One dead, 22 under observation for meningitis at K'dua Sec Tech

About 20 students of the Koforidua Secondary Technical School in the Eastern region are under strict monitoring by health authorities after one person died there of what health authorities confirmed as bacteria meningitis.

The second year student was said to have died last Friday after complaining of fever and body pains.

He was rushed to the hospital but died shortly.

Speaking to an Accra based radio station, Joy FM, the Eastern regional health Director, Dr Mrs Charity Sarpong said they are closely monitoring the students who had close contact with the deceased person before he died.

“Twenty two students are being followed up to ensure that should they also develop any signs or sysmptoms they will be picked up early and given the necessary treatment” she said.

She added that there is calm in the school while management of the school have been educated on the necessary steps to take.
