Office complex inaugurated in Accra for Ghanaian, Kenyan businesses

The government is set to roll out a National Entrepreneurship Development Plan, to support small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) and start-ups by July this year, the Minister of Business Development, Mr Mohammed Awal, has announced.

As part of the initiative, more than 1,000 graduates from tertiary institutions will be recruited and trained in business development skills to support the SMEs.

The support will include writing business proposals to attract the needed credit from banks and the development of the capacities of the business owners.

Mr Awal made this known when he opened an office complex to serve Ghanaian and Kenyan businesses in the country in Accra last Tuesday.

“The plan will be implemented to assist businesses to secure markets during the critical formative years, and tap into a wide supply chain and network during their growth years,” he said.

Located  at the Airport City in Accra, the Horizon complex houses over 50 offices that will make doing business in the country easy and convenient for small and large-scale businesses.

Bilateral relations

The Business Development Minister said the office complex would go a long way to strengthen the bilateral relations between Ghana and Kenya.

He said the governments of both countries had signed several agreements, including the development of partnerships in air services and trade, tourism, agriculture, energy, oil and gas, Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and education.

“The government of Ghana is committed to creating a conducive atmosphere for businesses to thrive, with the private sector as the driver of economic growth and development,” he added.

Helping African businesses

The Country Manager of Horizons Ghana, Mr Mark Gichini, said the company was building a seamless network of offices across Africa to enable African businesses to grow rapidly and compete with other multinationals.

“Kenyans hoping to do business in Ghana will find a business home here with Horizon, as well as Ghanaians looking to set up their businesses in Kenya,” he said.

For her part, the Founder of Kenya Trade Expo, Mrs Leah Nduati Lee, encouraged Ghanaian and Kenyan businesses to attend this year’s trade expo to explore the various business opportunities that existed between the two countries.
