In this regard, he has admonished his men to intensify the search for narcotic drug dealers in the area in order to bring them to book to serve as a deterrent to others.

Mr Amenyo gave the warning last Wednesday following the arrest of a 25-year-old man, Ibrahim Salifu, for possessing 22 pieces of a wrapped whitish substance suspected to be cocaine on the outskirts of Akyem Oda.

Briefing the Daily Graphic in Oda last Wednesday, Mr Amenyo said the previous day, police personnel at a checkpoint between Oda and the Oda Senior High School had in a search conducted on a commercial bus found 22 wrapped pieces of a substance suspected to be cocaine in a travelling bag.

He said upon inquiries, Salifu claimed ownership of the bag with its contents, and so the police personnel arrested him.

According to Mr Amenyo, Salifu had been placed in custody pending further investigations into the matter, after which he would be put before the law court.

He said the substance would also be sent to the police forensic laboratory for examination.

The divisional commander commended the policemen at the checkpoint for their vigilance and commitment to duty and urged other police personnel to emulate their example in order to nip the activities of narcotic drug dealers in the municipality in the bud.

In another development, two cocaine dealers, a 29-year-old drinking bar operator, Eric Arthur, and a 30-year-old plumber, Kwame Amponsah, both in Oda, who were arrested for possessing 170 and 145 pieces of wrapped cocaine respectively, have been remanded in custody by the Oda District Magistrate Court.

They are to reappear before the court on March 17, 2017.
