Obuasi East MP constructs modern library facility

The facility is fitted with 40 computers with Internet connectivity, a projector, a scanner and a printer.

It also has wifi Internet service and is fitted with four air-conditioners.

The well-furnished library with auxiliary offices brings the number of libraries in the Ashanti Region to seven.

The library was inaugurated by the Adansihene, Opagyakotwere Bonsra Afriyie II, and with the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr John Alexander Ackon in Obuasi.

Funds

The MP, who has been in Parliament since 2004, said the project, which started in his first year in Parliament, was funded from his accumulated share of the MP’s Common Fund.

Mr Ennin promised to support the various schools in the area with 2,000 desks and other learning and teaching materials to facilitate the acquisition of knowledge.

The library is one of many projects the MP has undertaken as he takes a bow from the House after 12 years of service.

Projects

The projects include a place of convenience for the Obuasi Government Hospital, nurses’ quarters and a number of boreholes.

Mr Ackon said Obuasi deserved the facility, given the recent high performance by students in the BECE and the springing up of more schools.

He said the library would add to the educational infrastructure that would help shore up teaching and learning in the municipality.

Commendation

The minister commended the MP for his gesture and told the people that the best appreciation they could show was to patronise the facility.

The Brazilian Ambassador to Ghana, Madam Irene Vida Gala, who is a friend of the MP, promised to offer scholarships to 79 Ghanaian youth to study in her country.

Obuasi has a long-standing Sister City relationship with one of the cities in Brazil.
