‘Nurture younger generations to take over leadership’

The Pentecost International Worship Centre (PIWC) at Kokomlemle in Accra has held a farewell service for its Resident Pastor, Rev. Daniel Sackey, with a call on institutions to properly harness the potential of their human resource.

The church asked private and public institutions to mentor and build the capacities of their human resource in order to ensure continuity when there was a leadership transition.

The Pastor in charge of the Burma Camp Assembly of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Major B. Kumi Wood, made the call at the farewell service held on the premises of the PIWC in Accra last Sunday.

He urged leaders of organisations to nurture younger generations to take over leadership roles.

“When Jesus left the earth, the disciples took over the work of the ministry. In that same way, Elisha took over from Elijah when the latter left. There was smooth transition because they had prepared the younger generation adequately. Present-day leaders must take a cue from  that and create room for continuity,” he charged.

Sermon

Dressed in white attire, members of the church sang and danced to music from the church choir.

Apostle Major Wood delivered a sermon based on 2 Kings 2:12-14 and Acts 20:32-38.

A citation from the church in honour of Rev. Sackey and his wife, Mrs Mary Sackey, eulogised the pair for playing a pivotal role in the spiritual and physical growth of its members.

Portions of the citation read: “You were a symbol of hope and motivation to us. You were down to earth in your approach to work, a virtue that has endeared you to all members of the church. Even though you were so knowledgeable, you still tapped knowledge from others in the name of team play. These virtues will forever remain with us.”

Advice

For his part, Rev. Sackey urged members of the church and the public to make judicious use of time and also work diligently while responding appropriately to the seasons.

He encouraged the members of the church to live at peace with each other and the public in order to promote unity and good neighbourliness.

Background

Rev. Daniel Sackey became the Resident Pastor of the PIWC on September 11, 2011. He had been at the forefront of the church’s numerous projects and programmes until his recent transfer to the Bethlehem Assembly of the Church of Pentecost in Ashaiman.
