Nine SDA Church members laid to rest

A burial service was held yesterday for nine members of the Meduma North SDA Church who lost their lives in a motor accident  at Tano Dumase during the Easter celebration.

They comprised three children and six adults. 

They were Joseph Boakye, 58; Emmanuel Attah Boateng, 63; James Appiah, 44; Margaret Nyarko, 54; Theresa Twumasi, 33 and Deborah Effah, 17.

The children were Andrews Appiah, 11; Sylvester Appiah, seven and Blessing Akyempim Asenso, nine-months old.

Mr Appiah died together with his two sons, Andrews and Sylvester.

Three of them were buried at Esaase, while the rest were buried in their respective home towns.

Burial service

Speaking at the burial service on behalf of the conference and the SDA Church, the President of the Mountain View Ghana Conference (MVGC) of the church, Pastor Abankwa Amoakohene, expressed condolences and gratitude to the bereaved families and the public for their sympathy and support following the accident.

Pastor Amoakohene announced that the church had established the "Mountain View Ghana Conference Relief Fund" and appealed to the public to donate to support the bereaved families.

 In his sermon, the President of the West-Central Africa Division of the SDA, Pastor Dr Gilbert Wari, called on the families to put their faith in Christ Jesus.

Other churches and the Muslim community were at the service to sympathise with  the bereaved families and the SDA Church.

Donation

A former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, on behalf of the party, donated GH¢5,000 to the bereaved families and the church.

The Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Mr Kojo Bonsu, on behalf of the government, pledged to take care of the cost of the coffins, the burial service, as well as the hospital expenses of the bereaved.

On Holy Saturday, April 6, 2015, nine members of the Meduma North SDA Church who were travelling from Agona to Kumasi, after attending a conference at Agona, died in a motor accident at Tano Dumase.
