9 KMA members petition against falsification of signatures

Nine assembly members of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) have petitioned the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) in Kumasi on an alleged falsification of signatures by seven fellow members who, in their quest to pass a vote of no confidence in the Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Mr Kojo Bonsu, had prepared a list bearing names and signatures of their supporters, including the nine petitioners.

Two of the petitioners said they were misled into signing a letter prepared by the seven. According to them, they were made to understand that the letter was meant to request a general meeting which had been delayed.

In the letter to disclaim any responsibility that was attached to the petition sent to the BNI and copied to the KMA, which was sighted by the Daily Graphic, the nine said they saw their names among a list of 46 members, about one-third of the number required for the KMA to call for an emergency meeting at which a vote of no confidence in the Chief Executive was to be taken.

The petitioners include Linda Karikari, Assembly Member for Daban Apraman Electoral Area; Kwadwo Frimpong, Ayigya; Victor Amoako Agyemang, Asokwa Extension; Isaac Osei Tutu, Sokoban; James Okyere, Ahinsan and Charles Talensi Bawa, Chirapatre.

An attempt by the seven aggrieved members of the KMA to initiate an impeachment process against Mr Kojo Bonsu was defeated because they were unable to raise the required numbers to begin an impeachment processes in the House.
