It would be his first visit to the country since winning the March 28 presidential election in Africa’s most populous country.

A statement from the Flagstaff House Communications Bureau Sunday said the Nigerian leader would be received at the Golden Jubilee Lounge of the Kotoka International Airport by President John Dramani Mahama.

The two presidents would then move into bilateral discussions to be followed by a joint statement at the Peduase Lodge in the afternoon.

Buhari is the first opposition figure to win a presidential election in Nigeria's 55 years of independence.

Mahama’s role in election
President Mahama, who was the ECOWAS Chairman at the time of the Nigerian elections, played a significant role in the success of that polls.

Ahead of Nigeria elections, President Mahama met with key stakeholders in the elections to discuss issues arising out of the ECOWAS monitoring group's reports.

He had fruitful meetings with then President Goodluck Jonathan, Mr Buhari, the INEC Chairman and Heads of the Africa Union and Commonwealth Observer groups, a move that went a long way to ensure the elections were held in a free, fair and transparent environment.

President Mahama was also among the first world leaders to congratulate Mr Buhari on his victory in the elections.
