The cash donation is targeted at BCI’s countrywide education and outreach aimed at creating awareness of breast cancer.

The President of BCI, Dr Beatrice Wiafe Addai, who is also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Peace and Love Hospital in Kumasi, expressed her appreciation to Newmont and said the amount would bolster the organisation’s campaigns.

The Chairperson of the Accra Chapter of Women and Allies Network of Newmont Ghana, Mrs Neringa Berzinkaskaite, and the Chairperson of the Akyem Chapter, Madam Elizabeth Hazel, both said that the donation was in line with the company’s corporate social responsibility directed at reaching out to organisations whose core objectives were in line with those of Newmont, that is, to seek after human welfare.

MTN

The two leaders commended BCI for its sustained campaign in the fight against breast cancer, which they believed, had impacted positively on the public.

In another development, a delegation from MTN, led by its Northern Sector Manager, Mrs Afrakoma Baah Obeng, has paid a courtesy call on Dr Wiafe Addai at the head office of BCI in Kumasi to familiarise themselves with operations of the organisation and to explore ways of cooperation.

A team from BCI, led by Dr Wiafe Addai took them through various stages of breast cancer treatment. She reiterated the need for public education on breast cancer to be intensified in order to reduce incidences of the disease while fighting off ignorance and stigmatisation.

Free screening

A free breast screening programme by the “Arkoh Foundation”, a branch of BCI at the Africa Hall of The  Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, was conducted following the visit.

The exercise was at the instance of the Ladies Wing of the Harvest Chapel International, where Mrs Baah Obeng doubles as the leader.

Dr Wiafe Addai noted that “the BCI’s primary consideration was to connect with schools and communities across the country to detect breast abnormalities.

Meanwhile, a free breast screening exercise at Aburi which was very well-attended, climaxed a week of free breast screening programmes by BCI.

The community was also screened for diabetes among other non-communicable diseases, which according to research, were silent killers.
