Newly recruited teachers to be paid by end of April
The government is to pay the salaries of about 13,000 newly recruited teachers from the various colleges of education by the end of this month, the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) Mr Jacob Kor, has announced in Accra.

Mr Kor stated this at a press conference on staff promotions and related issues at the ministry in Accra last Tuesday and asked those who do not receive their salaries at the end of April to report to the district and/or regional directors of education for immediate action to be taken.
He also announced that about 10,000 teachers who took part in an interview organised by the GES for promotion were successful, and assured the teachers that all personnel who successfully went through the interview would be placed on their right salary scales.
“The management of the GES wishes to inform its staff and the general public that it has started signing all promotion letters, which will be ready for collection at the various regional offices not later than April 30, 2017,” Mr Kor said.

Mr Kor further announced that those who were unsuccessful could reapply immediately, “and those who are successful but have their names wrongly spelt should inform their regional and district directors of education for rectification.”
The director-general assured the teachers of budgetary allocation for the payment of all promotions and arrears from 2014 to 2016 and all successful persons were, therefore, to take note of the information.
He appealed for calm as management tackled all pertinent issues, including payment of salaries and salary arrears.
GES to deal with erring officers
He warned that the GES would deal with any officer who collected money for processing the biometric registration forms of teachers for payment of salaries and salary-related issues, saying that such exercises “do not attract any fees and so no teacher or staff should be made to pay any amount of money to any staff of GES be it at the district , regional or national office.
“Any officer who refuses to have any document of a teacher or staff processed on the grounds of non-payment of any amount of money prior to the processing of a document, shall be made to face disciplinary action, as laid down by the service,” Mr Kor warned.
