A member of the Board of Trustees of the Yoruba community, Mr Razak El-Alawa, speaking at the ceremony, urged members of the group who were locked in a dispute to settle their differences and live amicably.

"Following the demise of Alhaji Mohammed Bashir Peregrino Brimah VII, there arose confusion and misunderstanding among some members of the Yoruba community, but it is my belief that the new chief, who is young and hardworking, will rally all together," he said.

Advice

Mr El-Alawa urged the Yoruba community, especially the youth, to focus on working hard to improve themselves and the neighbourhoods in which they lived.

He said the new chief, who succeeded the late Alhaji Mohammed Brimah VII, would, like his predecessor, work to improve the lives of members of the community.

“I believe the new chief, who is young and energetic, will create jobs for the youth,” he said.

Peace

The board member said he was also hopeful that the new chief would foster peace among Yorubas and Fulanis, Hausas and other ethnic groups in the Zongo communities in Accra.

'’Unity among the various ethnic groups will attract investment and development initiatives into the Zongos in support of the government’s decision to create jobs for the people,” he added.

For his part, the President of the National Council of Zongo Chiefs, Alhaji Abdul Khadiri, said the new chief was a unifier and expressed the hope that he would bring about unity among all the Muslim communities in the city.
