A 73-year-old retired educationist, Odehye Mrs Patience Awo Praa Agyekum, has been installed as the new Okuapehemea, under the stool name Nana Nketiaa Obuo II, at a colourful ceremony in Akropong-Akuapem.

The installation, which took place last Friday, makes Nana Obuo the 23rd Okuapehemea.

Many prominent citizens from Akuapem and other areas graced the occasion with their presence.

After the installation, the new queenmother was carried in a palanquin through some of the streets of Akropong to acknowledge cheers from the public.

There was a display of tradition and culture, as some residents of Akropong, as well as other guests, clad in black and red clothes, danced to the beating of drums.

The Director of Operations at the Office of the First Lady, Mrs Akosua Newman, who spoke on behalf of the First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, said the First Lady was concerned about the development of every Ghanaian, especially women.
