Mobile telecommunication company, MTN, has launched the fourth edition of its mobile applications competition dubbed MTN App Challenge Version 4.0 with a total of GHC 250,000 worth of cash prizes and gadgets up for grabs.

The competition launched on Wednesday in Accra follows on the heels of three successful editions after it was launched in 2013. 


According to the Innovations Manager at MTN, David Narh, young Ghanaian app developers in Senior High School, tertiary institutions as well as freelancers will have the opportunity to compete for honours in three categories this year.

He disclosed that MTN has added two new categories (Animation and Internet of Things (IOT)) to the already existing  categories of Business, Sports, Games and Entertainment and Lifestyle.

Speaking at the launch, the CEO of MTN, Ebenezer Asante stated that the first three editions  of the competition “saw very innovative and interesting  apps make the cut, with BuzTrick, Oware and Wheelo receiving top honors in the respective years.”

Mr Asante said the Apps Challenge version 3.0 received  98 entries and  48 apps were submitted for the competition out of which 11 apps were awarded over GHC 250,000 cash prizes.

“With the introduction of the 4G LTE Service, MTN is once again empowering local developers to utilize their skills to help Ghanaians enjoy the 4G digital experience with effective and relevant apps,” he noted.
