Nduom joins fight against compulsory towing levy
The Founder and the 2016 Presidential candidate of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom has called on the public to resist the implementation of the proposed mandatory towing levy by the government.

According to the business mogul cum politician, the proposed mandatory towing levy would only create an avenue for some people to milk Ghanaians of their scarce resources.
He explained that the country already had a law that mandates the government to tow vehicles that are wrongly parked on roads and charged them a fee for such a service.
He therefore, expressed shock, why the government has made new law that mandates every Ghanaian owning a vehicle to pay a mandatory towing fee.
“So why assume that we will all engage in illegal parking and require towing as a result make it mandatory for all vehicle owners to pay a road towing fee every year? This smells badly. Chop chop for whom? At whose expense? Join the fight against the mandatory towing levy”, Dr Nduom said.
He made the remarks in a statement tilted “Democratization of indiscipline on our roads”.
Background
The parliamentary Committee on Roads and Transport on Monday, July 31, 2017 recommended to the government to go ahead with the contract it signed with a private company for the towing of break-down and abandoned vehicles on the roads.
The government, acting through the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC), signed the agreement with the Road Safety Management Services Limited (RSMSL) in
October 2016 for the towing of break-down and abandoned vehicles.
The road map for the implementation of the project is contained in the Road Traffic Regulation, 2012 (L.I. 2180).
