A Deputy Minister of Education in charge of Primary and Junior High School (JHS), Mrs Barbara Asher Ayisi, announced this during a visit to three sponsors of the awards in Accra.

Value for money

Mrs Acher assured the sponsors that the ministry would create an attractive  platform to make sponsors visible.

She said the ministry viewed the awards as an important motivation for teachers and a way to show appreciation for their hard work.

“We want this year’s awards to be unique to serve as a motivation for the teachers to give their best and to serve as a challenge to all teachers to aspire for the ultimate.

Purpose

The visit was to afford the minister the opportunity to interact with the sponsors and to thank them for their sponsorship over the years and further appeal to them to continue with their sponsorship.

The companies visited were SICLife, SEDCO Publications Ltd and VIDYA Book Store.

Management of the three companies expressed appreciation to the minister and pledged to increase their sponsorship.

Teachers

The minister said teachers had a crucial role to play if the country was to experience quality education.

Mrs Ayisi said the need to motivate teachers to give their best was now even more, as the government was preparing to roll out a free Senior High School (SHS) programme starting from September this year.

According to the government, it was committed to giving equal attention to all levels of education, adding that more attention would be paid to technical and vocational education.
