The President of the College, Dr Edward Narh, who made the appeal, said financial support from the government would enable tertiary health institutions to purchase science equipment and books which were expensive.

“The government should expand and intensify science education from primary to tertiary level since technology is the basis of industrialisation of a nation”, he urged.

Upgrading of programmes

393 students graduated with certificates and diplomas to become nurses, medical laboratory technicians, physician assistants, health assistants and health carers.

Giving an account of the progress and challenges of the college, Dr Narh said the Diploma Nursing and the Medical Laboratory programmes had been upgraded to BSc degree level.

Additionally, he said arrangements with the National Accreditation Board (NAB) to upgrade the Physician Assistantship course to a degree level  was on course.

Also, he said the college was working hard to introduce HND Pharmacy Technician and BSc Computer Science programmes into the curriculum of the institution.

Dr Narh reminded the graduates of the story of Nene Narh-Bita’s sacrifice and service that inspired the founders to name the college after him, saying that if they followed his footsteps they would be successful and satisfied in all their future endeavours.

He also thanked the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) for mentoring the college.

Narh-Bita has a bright future”

In his keynote address, Rev. Prof. Patrick Ayeh–Kumi, who was the guest of honour, appreciated the establishment of the college because it had helped in the training of allied health professionals and nurses.

He said the feedback on the performance of the Narh-Bita graduates in the field was satisfactory, adding, “Narh-Bita has a bright future for greater heights”.

Prof. K.O. Boateng, a representative from KNUST, congratulated the college on its achievements and assured the management of the support of KNUST to assist the college in its efforts to train qualified health professionals.
