Murphy Homes launches affordable housing scheme
Murphy Homes, a subsidiary of LMI Holdings, has launched a housing project to provide houses at affordable prices for middle-class Ghanaians. According to the Executive Director of LMI Holdings, Mr Francis Osei Badu, the Avila Gardens project is designed to offer Ghanaians the opportunity to acquire their own houses without difficulty.

Located at Dawa, near Tema in the Greater Accra Region, the first phase of the project will involve the construction of about 600 new houses.
Launching the project at a ceremony in Accra, Mr Badu said the company was entering the real estate industry to offer the best of services to its customers.
“The real estate sector has seen very little of mass residential projects, and our company is ready to seize the opportunity to bring diversity in the sector,” he said.
Facilities
Mr Badu said facilities within the housing project would include recreational centres, a clubhouse, a school, a modern shopping centre, a car park, as well as an in-house estate management team to help with the provision of security.
“It is a stylish and modern gated community which offers duly serviced plots of land and genuine land title to individuals who want to build homes to their preferred specifications,” he said.

Mr Badu explained that the project was truly Ghanaian, saying; “Everything we have done is purely Ghanaian. The company runs its own quarries, block factories and pipe machines which the locals from Ghana are manning.”
Residential areas
According to Mr Badu, the real estate sector in Ghana had seen little improvement even though a lot of institutions had ventured into it.
He, therefore, gave an assurance that the company would provide the best of services and houses, which could easily be patronised by the middle-income earner.
“We are also going to go into the low-cost housing market, for which we have acquired 230 acres at Dawa to put up about 6,000 units per year,” he indicated.
Employment
The Business Development Officer, Mr Fred Baah, also stated that the construction works at the site would provide jobs for Ghanaians, since Ghanaians would do all the work.
Speaking on education, he said besides employing Ghanaians, the company had already trained 20 students from technical and vocational institutions, adding that every single year, the company would employ about 50 Ghanaian students to join their teeming force of workers.
