Prof. Stephen Tabiri, a Consultant Surgeon at the Tamale Teaching Hospital and Lecturer at the University for Development (UDS) also in Tamale, is leading a team of Medical experts from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi and the Brong Ahafo Regional Hospital in Sunyani to undertake a three-day free health care for people with diverse ailments, including surgical cases, at the Kwatire Polyclinic.

In an opening address, the Managing Director of Suncity Radio, a Sunyani based FM Station, Mr. Ransford Antwi said the uniqueness of this year’s event was the inclusion of the medical outreach programme to the various activities for the occasion.

“Apart from enriching the month-long social event, the free medical care was also aimed at creating public awareness of the existence of the Kwatire polyclinic which boasts standard facilities to meet the health needs of the people in the area and beyond”, he said.

Mr. Antwi urged the people in the area to patronize the polyclinic instead of travelling long distances to seek health care in Sunyani.

The MTN Regional Marketing Officer in–charge of the Northern Sector of Ghana, Mrs. Salomey Darko Bruku, reiterated MTN’s commitment to the socio-economic development of Ghanaians, hence the introduction of the medical outreach programme.

She said the sustainability of the outreach programme would largely depend on the interest and commitment to be shown by the public especially those in the catchment area.

Mrs. Darko therefore, urged all and sundry to take advantage of the unique opportunity and avail themselves of the free medical attention in order to improve their health.

A cross-section of the beneficiaries interviewed, expressed gratitude to MTN, Suncity Radio, the medical team and all stakeholders for the noble gesture towards humanity.

They also appealed to other individuals, corporate bodies and NGOs to lend support for the sustainability of this laudable initiative.

The medical outreach programme was followed by a gospel musical show Monday night. Other activities lined up include an inter-community soccer gala and health walk during the month-long social fiesta.
