The MMT has also said it had begun investigations into the accident involving its bus with registration number AS 7131 Y and a tomato-loaded truck.

As of Thursday afternoon, the death toll had risen to 61, while a total of 25 people are receiving treatment at various hospitals.

A statement released Thursday and signed by the Acting Head of Communications, Bernice Akologo consoled the bereaved families, saying, “It is really a sad moment for the Company as we are in a state of mourning for our late colleague and our cherished passengers.”

According to the statement, a team from the MMT have been sent to the scene of the accident to assist the police with investigations.

It said, “Whilst we leave the Ghana Police to do their investigations, MMT would also use its internal mechanisms to do in-depth investigations into the road traffic crash.”

The MMT further assured passengers to remain calm as they would continue to adopt strategies to remain “the safest, the most reliable and efficient means of transport.”
